Crest Hill Bungalow & Garage
Left: Photo taken April, 2021.
Crest Hill Bungalow sat on a beautiful parcel of land next to a creek that feeds into the Vernon River. Next door to the bungalow sat a 2-story concrete block structure that once housed an automotive garage. Both buildings can be seen in the image.
The Crest Hill Bungalow project was in fact a two-building project. The bungalow, a stick-framed single-family residence at 8426 Whitefield Avenue, sat next door to the Auto Garage, a concrete-block structure that housed apartments and an auto repair business at 8424 Whitefield Avenue. Re:Purpose Savannah agreed to take on both structures at once.
The Crest Hill Bungalow is a late example of the classic craftsman style, which was common from the 1890s through the 1940s. To the best of our knowledge, the bungalow was built in the early 1940s, though we have been unable to verify that estimate.
