Our Esteemed Patron
Mr. Harry Rosenzweig is the owner of the property that we call home. He has graciously welcomed us to make use of the lumber yard and warehouse for the operation of Re:Purpose Savannah. His contribution has been a critical factor in the growth and development of our work. We owe him a debt of gratitude for the kind generosity he has shown our non-profit.
Mr. Rosenzweig has dedicated his life to the proliferation of the arts. As an artist, he creates monumental works in plaster in concrete. Many of his pieces are in residence at our warehouse, and soon may be visible to the public in outdoor installations throughout the property. Mr. Rosenzweig has spent over 25 years in Art Education, including over 12 years as Associate Professor at New York University and over 11 years as Director of Cultural Programming at Montclair State University.
Harry’s Hacienda
When travelling through Mexico, Mr. Rosenzweig was awed by the vibrancy and craftsmanship he witnessed in the arts, as well as the close ties to the natural environment that Mexican arts embody. He has held these experiences close to his heart and they have influenced his artwork as well as his thinking about art and education. When he acquired the property on Gwinnett Street he had a vision of a site brimming with artists and craftsfolk that could embody the lessons he learned from the Mexican people. The seed of an idea, “Harry’s Hacienda,” was born.
It is our honor to help steward Mr. Rosenzweig’s vision of a creative collective into reality. Through his patronage, we have become home to a lively community of artists and craftsfolk, as well as host to events celebrating the arts, including The UnderGo, an annual music festival, and Craft Scout, an annual handmade market.
The vision of Harry’s Hacienda is ever changing as new inspiration feeds the project. We look forward to realizing such exciting possibilities as a sculpture park, a wildlife refuge, a coastal trail, and an art gallery. We extend our deepest gratitude to Harry for sharing his Hacienda with all of us in Savannah.
